The Bloodsucking Love Triangles of 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'Twilight'

Now that both vampire love stories "The Vampire Diaries and "Twilight Saga" are on Netflix the battle of the love triangles can ensue.

Both “The Vampire Diaries” and the “Twilight Saga” can have their separate love triangles streamed on Netflix, but which is better? The Loyola Phoenix “ReRuns” writer Natalie Doyle has her opinion set. Her statement reads:

“The Vampire Diaries” is much more complex than it sounds.  It’s filled with complicated storylines, history and a slew of phenomenal characters you’ll either root for or love to hate.

It also has a love triangle that, in my opinion, puts other vampire cult-favorite “Twilight” to shame.

The Salvatore brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), are entangled in a love triangle with Elena — but they were in the same situation before with a woman named Katherine Pierce — and the shocking similarity that Katherine and Elena share will have you seeing double.

While viewers often pick sides, it’s hard to do with the Salvatore brothers. Stefan is your classic good-guy hero with strong morals. Damon — who I’m definitely partial to — is the witty and sarcastic bad-boy with a soft side. They both have their moments of being utterly unhinged, and they’re both the subject of many-a Wattpad fanfic.

While both “Twilight” and “The Vampire Diaries” share in their Wattpad Fan-fiction love story methods, the triangle between Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black is much more entertaining.

Stefan and Damon Salvatore are borderline boring characters when it comes to their attraction and dialogue with Elena Gilbert. The spark the brothers share for Elena comes from her doppelganger Katherine Pierce leaving their love for her feeling forced.

Instead of connecting and finding love out of nothing their attachment to Kathrine Pierce draws them to Elena making the situation for falling underwhelming.

The underlying love that Jacob Black had for Bella Swan in “Twilight” came from within literally. Since Jacob did not know where his attraction to Bella came from but he could not be without her; the love feels deeper, personal and even sad.

Edward and Bella’s love was instant, and Jacob never stood a chance causing a split in viewers emotions either root for the underdog (Jacob) or be swept up in Bella and Edward connection.

Damon Salvatore’s history and struggle for love without adding in the Elena love triangle could have been an interesting plot line but because his brother Stefan and him are in love with the same girl once again a therapy session is the only thing to root for.

Vampire love triangles will be done until the audiences stop fighting over which bloodsucker or supernatural character is better from the socially awkward teenage girl and one day someone might make one better than “Twilight” but “The Vampire Diaries” definitely did not.
